This Autumnal Pear Bread is a moist and flavourful treat, perfect for the cooler months. Made with ripe, finely chopped pears, it combines warm cinnamon spice, rich butter, and a hint of vanilla. The buttermilk adds a tender crumb, while the sugar and pears create a natural sweetness. Easy to bake and full of seasonal flavor, this bread is perfect for breakfast or an afternoon snack!

What you'll need:

  • 200g finely chopped peeled ripe pears
  • 400g all-purpose flour
  • 200g sugar
  • 100g cold butter
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/8 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 50ml buttermilk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Method:

  1. In a large bowl, combine the flour, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, salt and nutmeg. Mix in butter until mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  2. Combine the eggs, buttermilk and vanilla with the flour mixture & fold in the pears.
  3. Spoon the mixture into two small loaf tins & bake at 200°C for 35-40 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the centre comes out clean.
  4. Let the bread cool for 10 minutes in the tin before serving.
  5. Make your bread last longer by storing it in an airtight container & refrigerate for up to 3 days!
